New Canadian NHP Labelling Rules: What Suppliers & Canadian Trade Need to Know

August 15, 2025

Health Canada is rolling out major changes to Natural HealthProduct (NHP) labelling—and suppliers and Canadian trade should take note. By June22, 2028, all NHPs sold in Canada must comply with the new Plain Language Labelling (PLL) regulations, designed to improve clarity, safety, and consumer trust.

Key updates include

  • Standardized Product Facts Table: Labels must now feature a clearly formatted table with dosage, warnings, and ingredient details.
  • Mandatory Allergen Disclosure: Priority allergens like milk, nuts, and gluten must be prominently listed.
  • Bilingual & Readable Design: Labels must use legible fonts in both English and French, with high-contrast layouts.

These changes replace the outdated 2006 framework and reflect Canada’s push for transparency in wellness products. Peel-back labels are gaining popularity as brands adapt to space and formatting demands.

For U.S. exporters and Canadian trade, early action is essential. Delayed compliance could mean product hold-ups, consumer complaints, or regulatory penalties—especially in provinces like Quebec with stricter language laws.

Bottom line: clear labels aren’t optional—they’re the new standard. Now’s the time to audit your packaging and stay ahead of the curve.
