New CFIA labelling guidance for plant-based alternatives to egg products
August 25, 2026
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has released updated guidance on how plant-based alternatives to egg products should be labelled in Canada. The guidance is intended to help ensure labels are accurate, clear, and not misleading for consumers. It covers key areas such as common names, claims and statements, and the use of images on packaging.
For U.S. suppliers considering entry into the Canadian market, this guidance is an important reminder that product labels may need to be reviewed against Canadian requirements before launch. Industry has until January 1, 2030, to fully implement the new guidance, giving companies time to update packaging and work through existing label inventory.
