
Changes to Alcohol Retailing in Ontario

The LCBO is Ontario’s government arm that oversees the handling, importing and selling ofall types of alcohol in Ontario and is the sole importer of alcoholic beverages to Ontario. It is also one of the world’s largest buyers and retailers of all types of beverage alcohol. Alcohol sales are totally controlled in Ontario by the LCBO. However recent changes to legislation are opening up alcohol sales.
· As of Aug 1, 2024, grocers that currently sell beer, cider and wine can sell RTD cocktails and large-pack sized
· Starting September 5, 2024 eligible convenience stores will begin to sell beer, cider, wine and RTD cocktails
· As of October 31, 224 all grocery and big box stores in Ontario will be able to sell beer, cider, wine and RTDcocktails including large pack sizes.
